The Cha Foundation

Welcome to the Cha Family Foundation website.

The Cha Family Foundation was established by Dr. Cheol-Ho Cha and Dr. Si-Ja Chon on behalf of the Cha Family with a mission to serve exceptional but underprivileged students at the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Vietnam.

Dr. Cha and Dr. Chon worked as professors in the US and South Korea for more than 30 years. After retirement, they had an opportunity to live in Vietnam to serve as an advisor for the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. This became the catalyst for creating a scholarship for talented medical and nursing students in need.

We believe that life is a gift and we are obliged to serve a greater purpose, which includes helping others, as I, Dr. Chon, had received help from Maryknoll Sisters of New York for my study while young.

Education is the core foundation for any person and we are hopeful that we can make a better world by spreading the seeds of hope. Our long- term vision is to have our recipients become future leaders and give back as much or more to society.

The Cha Family Foundation has 8 members including Drs Cha and Chon; their sons, Joseph and Gene, as well as their wives, Nayoung Kim and Joohyun Kim, and Joseph’s children, Matthew and Theodora. The scholarship candidates are vetted by each family member and the recipients are selected only upon a unanimous vote.
